H2A is proud to announce Jack Maddan
is SC Swimming's Coach of the Year 2010.
Coach Jack Maddan may have grown up in Jackson, Mississippi, but
his family journeyed westward to Santa Rosa, CA after a stop in
Chicago, IL. He has been coaching since his college days at Sonoma
State in California. Jack was Head Age Group Coach for the
Sebastopol Sea Serpents in California after graduation. In 1999,
Jack became a Head Age Group Coach at Mecklenburg Aquatic Club in
Charlotte, NC. In June of 2002, Jack began Stingray Aquatics as the
Head Coach with five swimmers in a 6-lane pool. Jack’s hard
work and dedication to the sport of swimming paid off as he grew
the small team to over 150 swimmers. Prior to his arrival in Hilton
Head, Jack was the Assistant Senior Coach for Y-Spartaquatics Swim
Team in Spartanburg, SC, for the short course 2007-2008 season.
Some of Jack’s accomplishments include: being named the 2010
SC Swimming Coach if the year, 2001 North Carolina Coach of
the year, North Carolina Zone Head Coach and North Carolina
Assistant Zone Coach three times; coaching State and Regional
champions; and has produced numerous top 16 swimmers and Junior
National qualifiers. Jack enjoys coaching because of the
relationships he cultivates with his swimmers and their parents.
Jack believes in inspiring his swimmers to love the sport and
excel. In his spare time, Jack competes in marathons and triathlons
along side his wife, Mary Bridget. Jack and Mary Bridget spend time
training together and keep busy raising their daughter, Erin and

Alexander Snyder
Assistant Age Group Coach

Alex Snyder grew up in Charlotte,
NC where he swam year round for North Mecklenburg Aquatics (aka:
NOMAD). He worked hard to reach his goals in a 4 lane, 20 yard
pool. Alex swam at Indian River Community College in Florida and
was a member of the 1996 Junior College National Championship Team.
After swimming in college, Alex returned to Charlotte and his swim
team. He coached for NOMAD for 10 years, and he was an integral
part in building the program to over 250 swimmers. Alex has had the
opportunity to coach swimmers of all ages and has found success
throughout the years. In 2006, Coach Alex served as the 13-14 North
Carolina Zone Team Coach. He brings energy and excitement with his
knowledge in the sport of swimming. In Alex’s spare time, he
enjoys training for triathlons and doing freelance graphics
work.

Mary Bridget Maddan

Mary
Bridget Maddan has been around water and many athletics throughout
most of her life. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, she grew up
swimming summer league and year-round, playing soccer, playing
basketball, and running around everywhere. Mary Bridget began
teaching swim lessons in high school, being certified in Red Cross
and SwimAmerica. She played soccer through college at Denison
University where she earned her BA in English and
education. Mary Bridget taught 8th grade English in
Ohio and North Carolina. While living in Charlotte, she
coached the two youngest groups of Stingray Aquatics and continued
coaching and teaching swim lessons in Spartanburg, SC. Mary
Bridget enjoys teaching swim lessons and coaching throughout the
year to share her love of swimming to children. As well as
coaching for H2A, she is the librarian at St. Francis Catholic
School. In her spare time, she loves to swim, bike and run,
training for marathons (her true love of running) and triathlons
with her husband Jack. Mary Bridget and Jack also keep on
their toes with their daughter Erin and son Jack.

Scott Brown
Assistant Age Group Coach

Scott
Comes to us from California where he attended the same junior
college as Jack. Scott has been involved in athletics all his life.
Everything from archery to yoga and most everything in between. He
has been a trainer and teacher for the last twenty years.
Instructing first aid and CPR, Firearms Rangemaster and
communicable diseases to law enfrocement. Scott was a Deputy
Sheriff and kept in great shape during his career, running yearly
in the 120 mile Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay. In 2005
he decided to make a career change to pursue his passion for
sport. Scott has studied hard during his transition to
teaching sports and has taught classes in Athletics clubs in
California. Last fall Scott moved here so he could swim and train
outdoors year round and it has paid off. This spring Scott
has qualified for two triathlon amateur national
champoinships. Scott's expertise in year round periodization
training and his ability to motivate young adults will benefit our
program. Scott has shown he can prepare successfully for one
day events and we expect Scott will do the same for our
swimmers. Scott is a member of USA swimming, Triathlon and
Cycling. He also works at Go Tri Sports here on the
Island.
